Why did the nation's nuclear energy industry pick former New Jersey Governor Christie Whitman to be the spokesperson in their campaign to win Congressional support for "loan guarantees" for new plant construction?

Thanks for posting this - I wouldn't have seen it. Interesting factoid she used regarding the small volume of all the nuclear waste that has ever been created (one football field up to the goal posts) which in my opinion is the achilles heal for more nukes. Can anyone confirm that it's really that small amount of super hazardous material?
